Alor Setar

Alor Setar, the capital city of Kedah has a population of 400,000. Its location is 93 kilometers to the north of Butterworth, Penang. Places of interest to visit are Balai Besar (Grand Audience Hall). It is used for official ceremonies, installation ceremonies, State Council Conferences. Two Kedah Sultans were officially installed at the Balai Besar.

Balai Seni Negeri (State Art Gallery) is another place of interest. It has a collection of photographs, paintings, handicrafts and musical instruments. The exhibition is held temporarily to cater to the public. It was officially opened by Sultan Abdul Hamid Shah.

The Pekan Rabu (Wednesday Market) is another place of attraction. It is located near Alor Setar. Due to popular demand it is open all week long. It has a variety of items.
