Bonds Hits 752 at Wrigley, Ends Slump

Barry Bonds continued his pursuit of the Hank Aaron all-time home run record in the usually home-run friendly confines of Wrigley Field. Bonds had been in a bit of a home run slump since hitting number 751 on July 3 against Cincinnati. Bonds now needs only three more home runs to tie Hank Aaron’s record.

Bonds hit the first pitch from Ted Lilly over the right-field fence to start off the second inning. It was the very first home run to make it out of Wrigley Field onto Sheffield Avenue all season so far. Bonds added a two-run single to his list of hits in the third.

Bonds had been stuck in a career-worst 0 - for - 21 slump. It was the longest stretch of being hitless that Bonds had experienced since April 5 - 12, 2001, which was the year he beat Mark McGwire’s single-season home run record.

Bonds had missed the first two games the Giants played against the Cubs this series. He was reportedly taking care of sore legs. He did pinch-hit on Tuesday night.

The fans booed Bonds heartily before he even took the field. They also booed him again when he stepped out of the dugout to get into the on-deck circle.

Wrigley Field has a tradition of throwing the home run balls from the opposing team back onto the field. No word was given if the ball was found on Sheffield and thrown back into the stadium.
