Buerhle and Sox Want to Stay Together, Sox String Together Three Wins

With rumors flying that he is on the trading block, Chicago White Sox ace pitcher Mark Buerhle came out and helped the Sox win their third in a row last night. The Sox beat the Devil Rays 5-3 behind a strong performance by Buerhle. At the same time manager Ozzie Guillen was stating he wants Buerhle to stay.

“If Buerhle was my kid, hey, make your money,” Guillen stated. “But Buerhle is my pitcher. I think he’s going to sign. That’s my hope, but there are so many things in the middle. Hopefully, we sign him before we get to
Chicago. That’s everybody’s hope, but you never know.”

Buerhle himself stated that he would like to stay with the team.

“I think everyone knows where my heart’s at…and how bad I want to stay here,” he said. “I want to stay here and do everything I can to stay here.”

Buerhle scattered nine hits over seven innings last night. He also got himself into jams several times, loading up the bases, but he managed, each time, to work himself out of them. Rather than trade rumors, talks of a lucrative contract extension are now being thrown about.

“My agent is here and I keep hearing Rich Hahn [the assistant general manager] is here, but I haven’t seen them,” Buerhle stated.
