Bullying at School

Bullying at school is a problem that unfortunately most parents must deal with. Whether your child is the bully or the victim or even both, it can be hard to deal with the situation and the conflict can even extend to the parents. There are many forms of bullying and the emotional or mental abuse that some children suffer on a daily basis can cause a lot more long-term damage than the physical kind.

Bullying can cause depression in even very young children and leave them feeling insecure, possibly hindering their studies and leaving them feeling uncomfortable in social situations. Signs that your child is having problems in school include unexplained sadness or irritability, a sudden, strong dislike of going to school. Often bullied children will do anything to get out of going to school, faking illness or simply leaving the home in the morning with absolutely no intention of attending class. If you feel as though your child could be a victim of bullying, talk to them or their teachers and find out exactly what is going on and deal with it from there.

Simply having the subject out in the open can be a huge relief for your child but check out the articles mentioned for some tips on recognizing and handling bullying in school.

This is a good article, and one that is needed out there. It is a problem, and can create such bad feelings between your child and school. They tend to generalize it — I hate school — rather than focusing on the bully. I know it is a tough situation, but it’s best to nip it in the bud, and allow your child to enjoy school.

Great article! It’s truly sad to think about bullying in school, but we all know it goes on. We need to do what ever we can to better the situation.

This is such an important article. Today with the internet it seems there are even more ways for children to be bullied, and little respite from it. As someone that was bullied as a child, I know how difficult it can be to focus on your studies. I only hope more parents notice the warning signs and take action.
