Cardinals Mourn Death of Pitcher Hancock
The St. Louis Cardinals lost a pitcher when Josh Hancock was killed in a car accident while driving in
St. Louis. Hancock was driving a 2007 Ford Explorer when it hit a tow truck early Sunday morning. The young pitcher was more than likely dead at the scene.
According to accident reports the tow truck was in the left lane of I-64 tending to another vehicle from a previous wreck. The truck had yellow lights that were rotating and operating at the time of the accident. The police have stated that evidence suggests that Hancock just did not see the truck and did not swerve to avoid it.
The death is the second to hit the Cardinals within the past decade. In June of 2002 Darryl Kile died in his hotel room from natural causes. The death of Hancock caused the game scheduled between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Cubs to be postponed. No date has yet been set.
Hancock was on the team just last year when the Cardinals won the World Series Championship. He had pitched eight games so far this season and had a 3.55 ERA. Hancock was well-loved by the entire organization, by all accounts, and his teammates are reportedly devastated by the loss. The Cardinals, however, are scheduled to head to
Milwaukee this week to play the Brewers.
