Children’s Books for Less
Do you love snuggling in bed with your kids and a good book? However, do the $9.99 and $12.99 price tags scare you from buying books that they may not even like?
Library books are great but there’s always a due date to remember and having your own mini-library at home is a great idea to encourage little readers.
1. Ask your library when they are going to have their next book sale. Some libraries have a shelf or corner dedicated to a perpetual sale whereas others host a sale a few times a year. You can get paperbacks for around 50 cents and hardcovers for $1, so its easy to stock up. Plus the proceeds go to the library, so its a win-win situation.
2. Even if you don’t usually go to thrift or consignment stores, check out their book sections. They often have lots of books for 25 cents to $1 that you can add to your library.
3. Amazon and Ebay are good options if you have some names or characters in mind. However, do factor in the shipping costs.

Great article! As a teacher, I cannot stress the importance of reading time with your children. As you mentioned, oftentimes the books are expensive, but you have provided some great suggestions to pick up books at a more inexpensive price tag. I hope lots of people read your article and take it to heart and get out there to find the deals! The rewards are great!

What a great idea! Children can get bored reading the same book over and over, so this is a good way to ensure their collections always stay fresh. Perhaps parents could also swap books with their friends who have children the same age? This is another great way to increase the collection without worrying about library due dates!
