‘Disturbia’ Kills For 3rd Week
For the third straight week, the thriller Disturbia sits atop the weekend box office, bringing in $9.1 million and totalling $52.1 through its run so far. Not bad at all for its modest $20 million budget. The two new releases The Invisible and Next, starring Nicholas Cage and Jessica Biel, took the 2nd and 3rd spot with $7.6 and $7.1 million respectively.
Other new release The Condemned barely made it in the top 10, hauling in a mere $4 million. The movie stars wrestler ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin and was a production of the World Wrestling Entertainment film. This is the weakest opening box office of their first three films.
Next weekend, all movies will have to move over for the much-anticipated Spiderman 3. No one knows how the market will go, especially after this weekend where a mere $9 million won $1. It’s hard to use Spiderman 2 as a measure because it released on a Wednesday, but let’s just say the first Spiderman made $114 million it’s first weekend, the second largest opening weekend box office ever. (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest is #1.)
