E-ttack on Estonia

It seems natural gas isn’t the only WMD employed in Russia’s new war on the Western world, in light of the Estonian government’s comments following the recent electronic war on state-run websites.

After ordering the removal of a Soviet memorial in Tallin city center, the Estonian government faced riots by ethnic Russians living in the Eastern provinces of the miniscule Baltic state. Once the physical riots drew to a close, government websites was forced to deal with e-terrorism, turning the sites into pictures of Soviet troopers and rebellious quotes by the famous Dr. Martin Luther King.

While Putin denies it, the Estonia blames Russia for the politically motivated internet sabotage; and even if Russia isn’t to blame, the whole incident makes one wonder, because as Anton Nossik, Russian internet genius, told the BBC, “hundreds of thousands of groups have the resources to launch a massive virus attack”

It seems America’s Cold War rival has learned its lesson and converted itself into a technologically-equipped war machine, while the US commits its dated military to conflict after conflict, perpetuating the military-industrial complex.

Every empire must fall; if the US doesn’t get up with the times it’ll get swept up.

It is a definite conern and one we (as a government) do not seem to be addressing. One day, hopefully, more regulation and safety will be placed on the Internet so we can be prepared. I think the threat of a “cyber-attack” is not far fetched, and we better be paying closer attention.

MORE REGULATION! HELL FUCKING NO! The internet is the last tool of free unadultered expression their is. I not only approve of this electronic attack; I support it. Unlike Vietnam, the Iran-Iraq War and the Contra affair, no lives were lost and the US didn’t make a profit off it. Because of the easy access to electronic means of destruction, these applications further empower any group of computer literate folks around the globe. If you ask me, this is the biggest step forward towards a truely direct democracy!
