Ease into fall fashion early

It’s summer, and you know what that means: time to get a head start on fall fashion. Even though the weather’s warming up, summer is a great time to play with layering. By the time fall rolls around, you’ll already be a pro.

Experiment with chunky knits. The comfiest way to keep warm, oversized sweaters will be your best bet for fall. To stay cool during the summer, try a cropped version in beige or pale pink. Wear with everything from floaty summer frocks to shorts and tees. They’re great for stashing in your tote for a cool evening or frigid air conditioned buildings.

Tights are another cold weather favorite, not just for their added warmth, but also for the unpredictable ways they liven up your everyday outfits. Pull out your leggings this summer for a breezier alternative to jeans. Tunics and dresses will keep you covered but cool and will give you more layering options for when the mercury drops. Instead of basic black, try gray or even plum-colored leggings for an extra fashion forward step towards fall.

This is really great advice, and very timely for me. I’m here in Australia, where we’ve just transitioned into winter. As it’s always a little warmer here than many parts of the world, these tips really hit the spot.

It always amazed me how early the next season’s clothes come out. Since moving to Houston last August, the summer clothes came in at just the right time since it gets hot here so early, but fall clothes? Not quite yet. It will be reaching the 100s soon, not to mention the humidity! Though I always have a light sweater with me for the over-A/Ced stores.
