“Evan Almighty” is just Evan Alrighty?
JJ Rating: B+
God asks Evan to make an ark because a flood is coming. Evan laughs. God persists. Evan jeers. God persists. Evan realizes He’s not going away so Evan builds an ark at the expense of his public image. Evan Almighty.
Evan Almighty is more like a spin-off of Bruce Almighty than a sequel. Steve Carell is funny in this film because he has a way with saying the most simple things in silly manner. Case in point: SHEEP!
Evan Almighty has simple child humor but I found myself laughing and enjoying the simplicity and heart that it presented. I liked how it showed the need for family and to stand by someone.
My favorite scene in the entire film was when Lauren Graham is at a restaurant and her boys go to the restroom and she gets a “visit”. It’s just simple cool for me.
The problem that I had was the blue screened animals when they were all together. It just did not look as good as a movie made in 2007 should look.
I scanned some critic reviews and I think they are too hard on some movies for the sake of being hard.
Should you see it? I don’t think I’d list it as something that is a must see.
I like Evan Almighty because it is simple movie with simplicity of heart. I am not an over critical whore who feels the need to trash a film to get a good zing in…so for that I say AMEN.

I did have my doubts about this one. Clearly quite similar to “Bruce Almighty.” The producers/director obviously enjoy the “God” interacting with people idea. Morgan Freeman plays a deity rather well though. =-)

I was wondering about this. Still, your rating of a B+ might warrant a look-see. I did see Bruce Almighty and was not sure how this one could hold up. However, as we know, most sequels are either hit or miss, and we have seen some in both categories this summer. I think I will still have to see this one, I am curious about the filming and how it was all put together with a green screen.
