Game 1: Spurs Smother Lebron, Cavs
You don’t have to say it but to borrow a line from the 1995 movie Dumber & Dumber, “I was WAY off”. I picked the Cleveland Cavs to steal Game 1 of the Finals and make this series interesting. Boy was I wrong!! What city did the Cavs’ team plane land, Corpus Christi?
Everyone knows that the Spurs are capable of playing any type of style, but they took a traditional page from their book and went into lockdown mode. Call them dirty if you like but the Spurs totally shut down the effectiveness of one LeBron James. Scoring just 14 points on 4/16 shooting, James didn’t even lead his team in scoring. And Daniel Gibson needs to see the floor more. In fact, why isn’t Gibson starting? Mike Brown better make some adjustments in Game 2.
San Antonio may have just taken the life out of the Cavs for the rest of the season. The way Cleveland performed last night did not give me any reason to think that this series will even go 3 games!! Lucky for Cleveland, this is a race to win four games.
I give props to Bruce Bowen for doing his job last night and not allowing a superstar to get loose and run up the scoreboard on him. He and a host of other Spurs continued to trap LeBron and force the ball to go to other players. San Antonio executed their gameplan to perfection last night and now the Cavs need to have an impressive showing on Sunday night or this thing can get even uglier.
