Gang of Four teases with talk of new album
If you don’t count 2005’s Return The Gift, a self-tribute album from U.K.’s Gang Of Four in which they re-recorded early material, the quintet has announced their first original release in 12 years. Not that much of their music – a total of eight albums thus far – has received the same critical response their debut Entertainment! and follow-up Solid Gold have accrued in the early ’80s.
But there may be something to the fact that bassist Dave Allen, who has managed to keep up with the contemporary music to an extent by serving as judge on last month’s Music Nation competition for up-and-coming rock acts, has said that they intend on delivering something “rather special,” or nothing at all. Not only that, but this will be the first Gang of Four recording with the original lineup since those first seminal post-punk albums hit shelves.
No dates have been set and there is little to no talk of release dates or a pending tour, but the mere suspense of the rebirth of these legends is deserving enough of some buzz.
