Harry Potter is coming!

If you have children, chances are you are well aware the new release of the latest in the Harry Potter series is being released next week. Now, I do not intend on writing a review of the movie, I will leave that to the critics. I will, however, suggest you take the time to explore reading with your child and engage in some literary activities surrounding the release of the book and movie. Many book stores are planning wizard parties to celebrate the arrival of the new release, with activities appropriate for all age levels. Also, why not check into some other fun activities like creating your own Hogwarts floor plan, or have your children design a cover for the next book or one that was previously released. You can create word searches, puzzles and other games using this theme as well. I see it as an opportunity to create and show your children how reading can be fun and all the fun activities that surround reading. You could even have a dress up party for your neighborhood, invite the friends, and make a real special day of it. You can read passages from previous books and generate some real excitement for the release of the new book and movie. I realize many parents do not approve of the Harry Potter books, and that’s perfectly fine. The message is, get your kids interested in reading, and use the media hype to instill the fun and excitement of reading and waiting on a new book release to your children.

Aah, its not just the children, even adults like me are eagerly awaiting the book and the movie. I am in fact, much more excited about the 7th and final Harry Potter book - which has many secrets revealed including where Snape’s loyalties lie and whether Harry survives. Rowling has already said that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is her favorite among the 7 tombs she has written!

I’m still amazed at how popular this series is. Not that I don’t like it, but just didn’t think the idea was that original. Regardless, kids and adults go gaga over Harry and pals. I prefer R.L. Stine myself. =-)
