I so need a vacation

All of us reach a point in our lives where we need to get out of dodge for a few days. Vacations are a wonderful thing! The first step to any vacation is figuring out where you are going.

The first thing you need to determine is how much money you have to spend on this trip. Set an amount or a range in advance. Be realistic with your finances. A week long cruise may sound great. However, if it is going to put you in debt, is it worth it? In that case maybe you should look at shorter cruise or something closer to home.

The next question is what kind of place do you want to go. Do you want to go somewhere with lots of things to do, or are you just looking to relax for a few days. Do you like beaches and sun? Do you want to plan a ski weekend? Like for me, I am not a fan of really hot or cold temperatures, so I like places with moderate climates (like San Francisco). Are you looking for a place with a party atmosphere like Las Vegas, or something more family oriented like Orlando? Sites like Weather.com (The Weather Channel) have travel/vacation planners. You can put in your preferences and the engine will help you determine your ideal vacation spot.

If you have particular destinations in mind, then you can start price checking. You will need to take a look at hotel prices and other costs like gas money and airfare. You can use a travel agent, or you can search on your own. There are many sites and resources you can use on the web to help you find the best deal possible.

These are great tips! I think for most people planning a “vacation” is a major event. But as you pointed out, you can budget and plan to get away and make it happen. It just doesn’t have to be something way off in the future. Speaking of which — I need a vacation too :-)
