MSNBC Gives Imus the Boot

In response to the continuing fire storm of reaction over the racial slur made by syndicated radio and TV host Don Imus, MSNBC said it is dropping its simulcast of the “Imus in the Morning” radio program.

Imus has been besieged by civil rights and women’s groups, calling for his firing after he referred to the mostly black Rutgers women’s basketball team as “nappy-headed hos.”

The shock jock, whose radio show has played host to media and political notables for the past three decades, apologized several times on Monday’s edition of “Imus in the Morning”. In his own defense, “I’m not a bad person. I’m a good person who said something bad.” He also stated that he wouldn’t resign but said his critics had the right to call for his firing.

MSNBC’s decision comes after a number of sponsors, including Procter & Gamble Co. and General Motors Corp. said they were pulling their ad spots from the “Imus in the Morning” show.
