Restroom Sign Send Mix Messages
A Florida Irish Pub finds it hilarious to switch gender signs for 10 years. But the jokes on them after a man filed a complaint for the sign to be taken down. It started when an incident occurred in the ‘women’s room’, after the man 15-year-old daughter spotted a guy in the restroom, the father said that the girl was embarrassed and left the restaurant crying afterwards.
The signs read ‘Ladies’ and ‘Men’ and each have a small print mentioning that women shouldn’t enter the room and vice versa. Florida’s Department of Business and Professional Regulation demanded that the sign be taken down in the restaurant or further actions will be taken to point of closing down the pub for good. General Manager Billy Martin finally took the signs down at the restaurant but it remained in his other pub in Pensacola where it has been placed over 30 years. The manager stated in the Northwest Florida Daily News, “We’re not trying to be malicious. It’s an Irish joke kind of thing.” But many of the regular customers of the tavern came to Martin’s defense with a petition with 3,000 signatures.

Uh, yeah — not good! I’m surprised their “joke” lasted for ten years. It was bound to bite them in the long run, and it sounds like they could be in some real hot water now. Not good for the pub, but they should know better.

Dang, this kind of thing won’t fly these days. I’m surprised it lasted as long as it did also. It sounds absurd.
