South Hampton University: Vegetarians are Smarter

A recent study by the University of South Hampton discovered that vegetarians scored five point higher on IQ tests at the age of ten over non-vegetarians. While the study could not determine if vegetarianism was the cause of their above-average IQ, the test scores were still statistically significant, meaning they were highly unlikely to occur by sample variation or chance.

Of the 8,179 participants, 366 identified themselves as vegetarian, however 100 admitted they ate chicken or fish. These IQ scores were partially related to better education and socio-economic status, but when researchers accommodated for these factors the test results were still valid and could be generalized to a larger population.

huh!! that explains why many people are now turning vegetarians..i would love to see how this affects in long terms.will the results hold live 10-20 years later..?

Hmm, I wonder if the study was complete? I believe we all need to incorporate more protein into our diets (at least I know I sure do), but I have always felt a balance of all food groups is better than just going vegetarian. However, if the study is complete then I guess it just goes to show, whatever your food preferences are, be sure to incorporate your veggies :-)
