Unhealthy Relationships: Deal with Hidden Resentment

The biggest mistake that some people make in a relationship is keeping hurt feelings bottled up inside. Individuals who have experienced several unsuccessful relationships may unknowingly avoid “speaking their mind” or expressing their opinions. This is poisonous to a relationship because hidden feelings or resentment can deepen, and ultimately result in an emotional outburst.

Regardless of how bad you want a relationship to succeed, keeping your true emotions hidden serves an illogical purpose. Healthy relationships are characterized by the ability to enjoy open communication and receive unconditional love, which means accepting the good and bad. If you can’t be yourself, or hold back emotions due to fear of rejection – it’s time to re-evaluate the relationship.

Great point! I think for the most part, people suppress their feelings because they perceive them as negative, or possibly hurtful to their partner. With that being said, we can see how not speaking your mind can be harmful to a relationship. I guess the key is — we need to learn how to speak our mind, without the appearance of an attack.
