White Sox Buehrle Gets 100th Win
While the Chicago White Sox seem to be struggling to do anything right, starter Mark Buehrle seems to be having a memorable year. Although it took eight tries to do it, he finally notched his 100th win yesterday as the White Sox managed to snap a five-game skid and beat the Houston Astros 6 - 3. It was a match-up of the 2005 World Series teams that had the Sox losing 2 games to 1.
Buehrle pitched eight innings, and had a no-hitter going into the sixth. During his time on the mound he allowed six hits and a run while striking out four and walking one. Buerhle threw a no-hitter earlier in the season, back in April, against Kansas City.
Meanwhile, a player-only meeting on Saturday seemed to loosen up the struggling White Sox bats. The Sox jumped all over the Astros’ Wandy Rodriguez. Rodriguez ended up allowing seven hits and five runs, for of which were earned. It was his third loss in four starts.
“Hopefully, for 101, we don’t have to wait two months,” said Sox manager Ozzie Guillen after the game.
The White Sox bullpen continued to struggle. When Buerhle came out in the eighth Dewon Day stepped in. He got out Carlos Lee but then walked two. Boone Logan was called in to replace Day and he managed to load up the bases. At that point Guillen called for loser Bobby Jenks who allowed a run to score on a wild pitch and then another on a ground out before finally ending the inning and the game.
